Imperialism Research Project
Task: You will choose a country/region to research and you will present that country's/region's story of Imperialism during the 1800s and 1900s. Remember, this project will count as part of your summative assessments.
Research:
Step 1: Choose a location. You will first need to choose a country/region to research. There are many parts of the world which were colonized during the Age of Imperialism. A list of suggested places can be found at the bottom of the page in the “Links” Section.
Step 2: Research your country/region. Using the provided “Research Guide,” the group will find important information about both the Colonizers and the Colonized. Each question on the research guide needs to be answered with detail because this will be your guide for your final product.
Step 3: Complete a bibliography. It is important to let others know where your information comes from. For each source you use, you must make a bibliography citation. Be sure to check each source to make sure it is valid. You are not to use internet sites like ask.com or Yahoo Answers as sources. Wikipedia is to be used only as a limited resource. Your goal is to use at least 5 different sources for your research. To help with your citation, go to: http://www.easybib.com/cite/form/website and enter the information it asks for.
The Product:
Your research can be submitted in one of the following 5 forms. Although each product may look different, all of the same information is required to be included in each groups work.
Story Book: Each group will create the story of Imperialism for the country/region they have selected. Each story must be at least 20 pages long and include all of the information from the Research Guide. The story must also include a Title Page, a Bibliography page, and a timeline of events. Each page is to include at least 1 image as well. Further information can be found in the “Resources” section.
Graphic Novel: Using images and dialog the group will create a graphic novel which depicts the story of Imperialism in your country/region. The story must also include a Title Page, a Bibliography page, and a timeline of events. Each page is to include at least 1 image as well. Further information can be found in the “Resources” section.
Paper: This project will consist of a 3-5 page paper written about Imperialism in the country/region you have chosen. This paper will also need to include maps, a timeline, and a Bibliography. Further information can be found in the “Resources” section.
Newspaper: You will need to create a period appropriate newspaper which contains articles about Imperialism in the country/region which has been selected. Articles will be written and pictures/graphics will be used to display the information which has been researched. Further information can be found in the “Resources” section.
Video: A video presentation can be made using either the format of a Documentary or a News Cast. Group members will be required to provide voice overs to images which will be shown. Further information can be found in the “Resources” section.
